April 15, 2007 Ride

Riders Association of Triumph – Ride Report (April 15, 2007)

After the rain on Saturday the weather cooperated fabulously for our planned Sunday adventure.  Five of us started from Moto Italiano a few minutes after 10.  Maya, our pack leader was on her Tiger; Brian rode his Tiger, while Brian (the younger) rode a GSX.  Roy led off on his RIII riding two with his sister-in-law Mirela.  Jim rode cleanup for this first leg of the trip on his America. We rode up 280 to Woodside Road where we turned off towards Redwood City to pick up some more riders.

Graham was waiting for us in Redwood City with his Speedtriple.  We were a few minutes early so had time to grab a cup of coffee and of course talk before three more riders arrived.  These were no-Triumph guest riders, Ben on a Yamaha, Mike on a VMax, and Peter and Sheila riding two up on Peter’s Honda. Graham led off on 84 up to Alice’s and Maya rode cleanup.  It was a great run.

After a few minutes rest (and more talking) at Alice’s we proceeded on towards the sea on 84.  Jim had to leave us here to get home and pick up more capable transportation so he could pick up his daughter at the airport.  Probably she travels with luggage!

A bit after La Honda we headed left on Alpine to pick up Pescadero Road which we followed out to Highway 1.  Along the way Brian hit a rock, skidded off the road, and lost a foot-peg.  Back up he made it to Pescadero with the rest of group were we again rested and of course talked some more.  The two Brians headed back from here.  We missed them because the best part of the ride was just ahead.

After reaching Highway 1, Graham again led off north towards Half Moon Bay.  The day was crystal clear with great views of the beach all the way north.  Traffic was light too.  It didn’t take long before we reached Half Moon Bay where we stopped for food and more talking at Cameron’s.  We had a good lunch.  Getting back on the road north towards 92 was a little tricky but all made it without any incidents.  Most of 92 was also a good ride.  At the top the guest riders took their own way home.  After a quick bike change (Maya and Graham swapped) we headed of south on Skyline back towards Alice’s, not just three Triumphs strong.  The weather remained perfectly clear so the vistas were great.  Graham and Maya continued off down 84 as our informal group separated.

It was great ride, if you couldn’t make it to this one don’t worry.  They are all great and there will another in a month!

RAT Rider,

Roy
